Cartwright Cup Goes the Distance, Charlotte Prevails
|
The Charlotte Flyers and Charm City Jimmies didn't hold back anything in the Cartwright Cup, with each team pulling out all the stops in an effort to advance to the Monty Brewster Memorial Series.
Charlotte won the final game by a score of 2-1 at Family Dollar Field and that concluded the series, 4-3.
"Relief is the biggest thing," Charlotte second baseman Domingo Chávez said when asked how he felt. "It's a grind both mentally and physically to have a long series like this, but our guys stuck with it and Charm City deserves credit for the hard fight."
Chávez paced the Charlotte offence and earned MVP honors. For the series, he hit .333 with a .467 on-base percentage, 1 home runs, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.
The Charlotte Flyers will play against the Nashville Bluebirds in the next round. Nashville won their series against the Twin Cities River Monsters 4 games to 2. The Monty Brewster Memorial Series is scheduled to begin on October 27th , 2062.
