Thomas Turner pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Boise Spuds, despite Turner's fine outing, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Mexico City Aztecs at Quetzalcoatl Dome. Picking up his 5th save was 15-year veteran Vassilis Zorba. Their 53-69 record puts the Aztecs 6th in the Johnson League Frontier Division.
The Spuds had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Aztecs going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 35-year old first baseman Wafid Bishr came to the plate. Bishr hit a solo home run on a 1-1 changeup from Boise hurler Thomas Turner. It was Bishr's 20th home run of the year.
"It's good to win," Bishr told the Mexico City Bulletin. "I like to have fun doing it."
