Mounties Come Up Short at Hawaii, 5-4
|
‘Iolani Palace was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Hawaii Tropics and Vancouver Mounties.
The Hawaii Tropics did just enough to sneak past the Vancouver Mounties, 5-4, at ‘Iolani Palace. Hawaii pitcher Niegloslaw Woywitka, in particular, had a standout performance. The winner was Utkan Göçek in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Rusty Miller took the loss. Bob Westbrooks recorded his 2nd save for Hawaii.
The Tropics got a big at-bat from second baseman Carlos Schumann. For the game, Schumann went 1 for 5 with a double. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 6th double of the season gave Hawaii a 5-4 lead.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Schumann after the game.
The Mounties fall to 6-9 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2062 season.
