Surfers Earn Late 4-3 Win
The Surfers grabbed a win, 4-3, at The Trail in Multnomah, overcoming a fine effort from Portland pitcher Mauro Esperanda. Esperanda went 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Long Beach reliever Roberto Rosário snagged the win, upping his record to 1-1. Sameer Abdul-Malik shouldered the loss. Long Beach is off to a sluggish start, getting just their 5th win in 18 games.

Long Beach used the timely hitting of Fred Courtney to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Surfers on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

In postgame comments to the Long Beach News, Courtney said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
