Brownies Get Clutch Win Versus Nashville
|
The rain came, as predicted, but the Brook Park Brownies and Nashville Bluebirds were able to complete their ballgame.
The Brownies faced a stiff challenge from Nashville pitcher Armando Ortíz, but persevered to claim a win at Brownie Field. The final score was 2-1. Ortíz went 5.1 innings and allowed no runs. The win was credited to Kutaiba Abdul-Nasser in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Walt Thomas took the loss.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, fan favorite Yazeed bin Saleem had a chance to be the hero. Nashville pitcher Walt Thomas wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, bin Saleem hit a sacrifice fly. The Brownies had themselves a thrilling win.
"We did just enough to win," bin Saleem said.
Nashville, with the loss, is still a stout 14-5.
