Kernels Turn Back Nine, 3-1

Soggy conditions did not keep Des Moines and Yellow Springs from playing their scheduled game.
Des Moines turned a good performance from starting pitcher Alonso Amaya into a 3-1 triumph over the Yellow Springs Nine at Kid Krauss's Kum & Go Kourtyard. For the Nine, the loss makes their record 8-14.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Kernels had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Alonso Flinn hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Dewey Harris and made the score 3-1, Kernels. Flinn went 1-3.
"Alonso's a gamer," said Des Moines manager Mel Jenkins. "Glad he's on our side."
