Surfers Rally Late to Nip Mounties
|
The Vancouver Mounties got a sterling performance from pitcher Chris Parker, but the Long Beach Surfers still prevailed, 4-3. Parker threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. Long Beach reliever Alonso López was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Serge Elovsky. Long Beach, now 9-14, is off to a slow start.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 24-year old left fielder Vicente López had a chance to be the hero. Vancouver pitcher Serge Elovsky wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, López drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Surfers had themselves a thrilling win.
"This stadium was a-rockin'," said López.
