Yellow Springs parlayed a decent outing from starter Cory McGuire into a solid win over the Des Moines Kernels. The final score was 5-3. McGuire got the win, improving to 2-3. He gave up 6 hits and walked 0 over 6 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Jesús Ríos picked up the save, his 5th.
The Nine got a big at-bat from catcher Guillermo Espinoza. For the game, Espinoza went 1-4 with a double. In the top of the sixth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season gave Yellow Springs a 3-2 lead.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said McGuire.
Yellow Springs is still hoping to get on a roll. The win is just their 9th in 24 games.
