The Twin Cities River Monsters defeated the Des Moines Kernels, 9-3, in 13 innings. Doing his part was first baseman Mathew Malone, who was 4-7 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Des Moines now is 10-14.

Twin Cities used the clutch hitting of Miller Shed to snag the win. The second baseman drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the River Monsters ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.

Afterward, Des Moines manager Mel Jenkins said: "We've hit a rough patch."
