The Phoenix Talons topped the Boise Spuds, 8-2, in Johnson League action at Denny's Paul D. Lunn Memorial Stadium Presented By Subaru. The game was highlighted by the performance of Phoenix first baseman G'Tuda Choppa. Phoenix pitcher Waseem bin Suhayb earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Doug Eckhoff suffered the loss. After losing, Boise is 10-17.

Thomas Blanchard had a big grand slam home run for the Talons in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Phoenix leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from Doug Eckhoff, who is a three-time All-Star, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Talons on top, 6-1.

"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Mario Contreras.
