Bluebirds Best Kernels in Pitching Duel
|
The Nashville Bluebirds had to overcome a fine effort from Des Moines pitcher Garth Dobbs to win, 2-1, at Kid Krauss's Kum & Go Kourtyard. Dobbs went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. Armando Ortíz picked up the win, lifting his record to 4-1 on the season. He struck out 5 and walked 3 in 5.1 innings, while yielding 1 run. Giustino Modica earned the save for Nashville, his 12th.
Nashville used a clutch at-bat from Max Shepperson to capture the win. The designated hitter hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Bluebirds ahead, 2-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Both teams played hard," said Nashville manager Brand Michael.
The loss makes the Kernels 11-18.
