Mad Popes Score Late to Beat Bears, 4-3
|
The San Fernando Bears got a superb performance from pitcher Jerry Richards, but the Sacramento Mad Popes still won the game, 4-3. Richards threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. Sacramento leads the Frick League Pacific Division by 3 games.
The Mad Popes were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 21-year old left fielder Craig Williams landed a big blow. He turned a 1-2 changeup from Dhrtatman Seshadri into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the The Basilica at Muskrat Slough denizens into a frenzy and sent the Mad Popes home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"This game was intense," Williams said, postgame.
