Mad Popes Slip Past Stars, 5-3

The Sacramento Mad Popes grabbed a win, 5-3, over the Valencia Stars at Dunn Field. Sacramento third baseman Bill Atkinson was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Sacramento is third in the Frick League Pacific Division with a record of 20-15.
Had Atkinson not come through in the top of the ninth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Atkinson hit a 2-run double. The Mad Popes took the lead, 5-3, and never looked back.
"We did a lot of things right," said Atkinson.
