Dave Matthes led Chicago to a win over Madison. The final score was 4-3. The Sioux City, Iowa native collected 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. The Black Sox, now 21-16, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Omar Robles to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Black Sox on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Madison manager Will Myers said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
