The Hawaii Tropics had to overcome a good performance from Long Beach pitcher Dirk Bessi to claim a 1-0 win at ‘Iolani Palace. Bessi went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs. The winner in relief was Gheorghe Sollomovici. He is now 1-1. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The 14-24 Surfers have lost 10 consecutive games.
Hawaii got a clutch hit from Eric Owens. The designated hitter launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.
"I've never been a good loser," admitted losing manager Mike Ellis, before walking out on reporters.
