Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Long Beach Surfers take on the Hawaii Tropics.

The Hawaii Tropics met little resistance from the Long Beach Surfers, beating them, 12-2, at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium. Jorge Dodd led the way. He was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 4 for Hawaii. The Tropics improved to 23-18.

Hawaii used the bat of Vincente Méndez to get the win. The right fielder hit a fastball from Bob Johnson out of the park for a 2-run home run. The blast came in the top of the fourth inning and put the Tropics on top, 3-1. It was Méndez's lone hit, but it left a mark.

"I wish every win came this easy," said Dodd.
