Starting pitcher You-de Szema had a solid game. He was a big reason the Long Beach Surfers throttled the Vancouver Mounties, 2-1. The winning pitcher was Szema, now 2-6. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Quirke Roddis recorded his 3rd save for Long Beach.

Steveland Morris, who finished 2nd in the FL in stolen bases with 32 in 2055, helped out the Long Beach cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the shortstop drew 1 walk.

Szema expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
