Aztecs Lose as Talons Stage Late Rally
|
At Quetzalcoatl Dome, the Mexico City Aztecs and Phoenix Talons were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Powered by Taisuke Kamimura, the Phoenix Talons downed the Mexico City Aztecs, 7-5. Kamimura went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times for the Talons. The win was credited to 24-year old right-handed pitcher António Michels in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Bryan Cunningham took the loss.
Tsu-bahr Hru drove in one run for Phoenix. With no one out and the game tied in the top of the eighth inning, Hru, who is tied for 3rd in the JL in stolen bases with 21, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Mexico City hurler Guo-dong Cong, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Talons a 6-5 lead.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Hru, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
Phoenix's record now stands at 26-16, placing them first in the Johnson League Frontier Division.
