Mad Popes Jolt River Monsters, 4-2, with Late Rally

The Sacramento Mad Popes picked up a win at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough, knocking off the Twin Cities River Monsters, 4-2. On the mound for Sacramento was left-hander Bob Red. He played a key role in the triumph. Sacramento reliever Bill Fitzpatrick picked up the win, raising his record to 2-3. Arnold Cantrell was tagged with the loss. Picking up his 6th save was three-time All-Star Jeff Locke.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Norio Yoshida came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Twin Cities pitcher Arnold Cantrell, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Sacramento on top, 3-2.
"Bob is a gamer," said Sacramento manager Fernando Pacheco.
The 'W' lifts Sacramento's record to 31-19.
