The Long Beach Surfers rode a solid performance from 27-year-old starting pitcher Stephen Clulow, Jr. to a win, beating the Madison Wolves, 4-1, at Shotz Stadium. Long Beach now sports a record of 22-30.

Long Beach used the timely hitting of Pedro Vargas to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Surfers on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I thought we played a nice game," Vargas told the Long Beach Gazette. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
