Kernels Earn 4-1 Home Win
|
The Des Moines Kernels picked up a win at Kid Krauss's Kum & Go Kourtyard, dropping the Omaha Cyclones, 4-1. Tommy Akers, who is a two-time All-Star, was the difference-maker. The winner was Akers. He threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The loser was António Fox. Scott Everard got the save, his 16th in 19 chances.
Miguel Martínez, who finished 5th in the JL in extra base hits with 83 in 2057, came through for Des Moines with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the seventh. The second baseman went 2 for 3 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and collected 2 RBI.
"Every win gets us closer to our ultimate goal," said Martínez.
Des Moines now has a record of 74-49 with the win.
