The 9-7 Hawaii win over Portland was due largely to Armando Medina. The Tropics catcher went 2-4 with 2 home runs. Bob Westbrooks earned the save for Hawaii, his 13th of the year. The Tropics improved their record to 66-58 with the win over Portland.

Vicente Martínez, who leads the FL in extra base hits with 78, helped out the Hawaii cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the designated hitter went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk.

"We maximized our offense today," said Hawaii skipper Amato Cruz. "That makes everyone's life easier."
