Fans witnessed a whale of a game between the Sacramento Mad Popes and Valencia Stars.
The Sacramento Mad Popes picked up a win at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough, taking down the Valencia Stars, 3-2. Starting pitcher Joe King was a big reason why. King, the winner, moves to 13-6. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 1 walk.
Sacramento left fielder Pedro Álvarez contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 99th hit of the season and put the Mad Popes ahead, 3-0.
"My job is to go out and execute," said King.
The Mad Popes, at 68-57, have now won 4 straight.
