Stars Fall Short, 10-9, at Louisville
|
The Valencia Stars could not turn a fine performance from catcher Bernd Helwich into a win. Instead, the Louisville Sluggers prevailed, 10-9. Helwich slugged 2 home runs. Ethan Bricknell picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-3. Rashid Umrani was tagged with the loss. Louisville, at 28-29, holds down 6th place in the Frick League Heartland Division.
José Jackson, who is tied for 8th in the FL with a .910 OPS, took Valencia hurler Rashid Umrani deep in the bottom of the third. His 3-run home run put the Sluggers on top, 3-2. In all, Jackson had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It never gets old," said Jackson. "Winning, that is."
