Hawaii had no answer for 27-year old right-handed pitcher Stephen Clulow, Jr.. The Long Beach Surfers starter stymied Tropics hitters, helping the Surfers cruise to victory, 10-1. Clulow, Jr., the winner, moves to 3-8. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up no walks. The Surfers go to 47-80 with the win.
The Surfers got a big hit from first baseman Gustavo Espinoza. Facing Hawaii pitcher Gerardo Rea in the bottom of the eighth, Espinoza pounded a 3-run home run to right-center. His 37th home run of the season put the Surfers ahead, 10-1.
"Not the preferred outcome," Hawaii manager Rich Kerr said, when asked afterward about the game.
