Lumberjacks Come Up Short at Sacramento, 3-2
|
The Sacramento Mad Popes beat the Portland Lumberjacks, 3-2, at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough. The win was due in part to right fielder Pedro Álvarez, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Picking up the win was Jamie Barber. He went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 1. The Mad Popes sit in first place in the Frick League Pacific Division with a record of 73-55.
Álvarez had a timely hit for Sacramento in the bottom of the sixth. With Sacramento trailing 2-1, he turned a full count sinker into a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season, making it 3-2, Sacramento.
"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Álvarez.
