Vancouver got a decent performance from pitcher Chris Parker, but it wasn't enough to beat the Valencia Stars. Valencia won the Northwoods Outpost contest, 6-5. Parker threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Dave Furman locked down his 27th save. The Stars go to 53-81, putting them 7th in the Frick League Pacific Division.

Athens, Greece-born Zenobius Kazantziakis came through in the clutch. In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded and the Stars trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to left to put Valencia on top.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Vancouver manager Hung-k'uei Cui. "But we decided not to take it."
