Kernels left fielder Ken'ichi Okubo left his mark on his team's 5-1 win over the Sacramento Mad Popes. Okubo, who is rated as the 29th best prospect by BNN, was 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for Des Moines in the contest. Scott Everard earned the save for Des Moines, his 7th. The defeat makes Sacramento 33-25.

With Des Moines trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Okubo hit a changeup from Jamie Barber for a 2-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Kernels ahead, 2-1.

"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Okubo. "It sure beats the alternative."
