Tropics Handle Stars, Grab 6-1 Win

Good production from left fielder Vincente Méndez helped the Hawaii Tropics topple the Valencia Stars, 6-1. Méndez was 2 for 3 with a home run, while scoring 2 times for the Tropics. Hawaii reliever Manny Ortíz picked up the win, raising his record to 3-1. Juan García was tagged with the loss. The Tropics go to 62-75, putting them last in the Frick League Pacific Division.
Mitch Wareham had a big run-scoring double for the Tropics in the bottom of the third inning. With Hawaii leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Juan García and swatted a double to center. It was his 29th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tropics ahead, 2-0.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Wareham told the Hawaii News.
