Sad Sack Stars Lose 11th Straight
|
The Vancouver Mounties withstood an impressive performance by Valencia center fielder Bannon McThomas to defeat the Stars, 7-5, at Dunn Field. McThomas was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Serge Elovsky claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. His record stands at 5-1. Jesús García closed out the game, earning his 29th save.
Had Sergio Mendoza not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Mendoza hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Mounties.
Said losing manager Roberto Solís: "These are the grinding hard days that all good teams go through, and this is when we've got to stick together and believe in one another."
The Stars, now 48-90, have lost 11 straight.
