Zombies Come Up Short at Atlantic City, 2-1
|
The Atlantic City Gamblers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Brian Whitford, who muffled the Jacksonville offense en route to a tight, 2-1 Gamblers win at The Ballpark at Bally's. Whitford picked up the win for Atlantic City, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 14-8. Jesús Martínez picked up the save for Atlantic City, his 30th of the year.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Gamblers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when second baseman Javier Aguilar hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Nelson Thompson and made the score 2-1, Gamblers. Aguilar was 2-4 with 2 singles.
Atlantic City manager Mario González called it "a good, solid win."
With the win, Atlantic City has a record of 64-77. Jacksonville falls to 67-74.
