San Fernando Defeated By Kernels, 4-1
|
Des Moines and San Fernando duked it out and the Kernels came out victorious.
Greg Shaw was locked and loaded, helping the Des Moines Kernels beat the San Fernando Bears, 4-1. Shaw yielded 1 run over 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-1. Scott Everard finished the game for Des Moines and earned his 13th save.
Miguel Martínez had a big solo home run for the Kernels in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Des Moines leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he sized up a sinker from Rick Marriott, who is tied for 7th in the FL in innings pitched with 71.0, and punished it. The result was his 10th home run of the season, which put the Kernels on top, 3-1.
"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Shaw.
With the win, Des Moines raised its record to 31-28.
