Mounties Win, 7-4, at Long Beach
|
Vancouver picked up a win at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium, bumping off the Long Beach Surfers, 7-4. Pitcher Dirk Bessi was a major reason the Mounties emerged victorious. The winner was Bessi. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Gavrilovich Mastinsky. The loss drops Long Beach to 1-5.
Vancouver used a well-timed hit by Sergio Mendoza to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Mounties ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Mounties manager Hung-k'uei Cui. "This one was nice to get."
