River Monsters Sneak By Surfers, 2-1
|
Long Beach got a big-time effort from pitcher You-de Szema, but it wasn't enough to keep the Twin Cities River Monsters from winning the game, 2-1. Szema threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Andrés Gonzáles claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings. His record stands at 4-1. The second-place River Monsters go to 36-24.
Twin Cities used the timely hitting of Darren Wearne to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the River Monsters on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I like our moxie," said River Monsters manager Gerald Brandt.
