Vernon on Fire: 5-for-5 for Cape Fear Sunday, May 13th , 2063 Richard Vernon exploded for a barrage of base hits at The Station @ CSX Field. The Cape Fear second baseman had a field day in his team's 12-6 triumph over the Jacksonville Zombies, finishing 5-for-5. "My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch." Vernon must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Richard Vernon singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and reached via catchers interference in the 9th.
