5-Hit Blitz by Gaylord's Guzmán
Friday, August 4th , 2062
After a 5-hit effort to lead Gaylord's 10-8 victory over the Lexington Sycamores, second baseman Manuel Guzmán told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Spike Nolan League-level is really something special."
The 17-year-old player earned his accolades at Garden City Grounds with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Sycamores.
"His swing is getting there," said Sting Rays skipper Gary Allen, who spoke glowingly of Guzmán after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Manuel did that to perfection."
Manuel Guzmán singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Izak Bakermans in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
This season, Guzmán has hit at a .304 clip with 22 RBIs, 6 home runs and 20 runs scored. He has played in 44 games.
