Big Day with Bat: Qadir 5-for-8
Monday, June 11th , 2063
The Anchorage Polar Bears downed the Chestermere Lunkers, 5-4, at The Igloo, in spite of the best efforts of Chestermere second baseman Khalid Qadir. Qadir lashed the ball all over the park in a 5-hit explosion, finishing with a 5-for-8 line -- and a loss.
"I don't remember a better day batting, but it sure is disappointing to lose the game," he said to BNN reporters in the postgame interview. "A win would have made the day much sweeter."
Asked if he would adjust his strategy next time the Polar Bears face Qadir, Anchorage manager José González said "absolutely not."
"Our strategy was to not give him good pitches to hit," he said. "We didn't do that, and he worked us over. Thankfully, we won anyway, and next time we'll pitch to him better."
Khalid Qadir singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, flied out in the 8th, grounded out in the 10th, singled in the 12th and singled in the 14th.
Thus far this season, Qadir is hitting .282 with no home runs, 3 RBIs and 1 run scored. He has 11 hits in 39 at-bats and has played in 10 games.
