His consecutive-game hitting streak has reached 20 games, doing so by going 4-for-5 against the Australia Kangaroos. The streak has brought a degree of attention that Vega has often tried to deflect, talking about teammates' accomplishments rather than his own. After the Avengers wrapped up their 8-4 triumph over Australia at Red Bulls Field today, he downplayed his part in the victory. "I got 4 hits," he said. "My contributions were no more important than those from everyone else who played today." Gerardo Vega singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th. This year, Vega is hitting .363 with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs in 37 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .479 with 32 walks and 37 runs scored. |
