Rye Batters Lagos Big Time Thursday, August 17th , 2062 After his 5-hit effort at Free State Grounds was tarnished by Bloemfontein's 3-2 loss to the Lagos Wreckers, third baseman Carlos Rye told BNN beat writers it was "a missed opportunity for a special day." "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "I would have been happy to stop there if it meant we got a win." He didn't get the win, but the 30-year-old had a spectacular 5-for-7 game against the Wreckers. "His swing is getting there," said Cats skipper Lee Conley after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Carlos did that to perfection and we wasted it." Carlos Rye doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 9th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 13th and grounded out in the 16th.
