Ho Chi Minh City Silences Kyoto, 2-0
Sunday, September 17th , 2062
Zafir bin Hamzah of the Ho Chi Minh City Explorers was on top of his game.
The 24-year-old tantalized the Kyoto Frogs with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 2-0.
"He had the changeup working," Kyoto manager Dean Berg said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Ho Chi Minh City hurler had 9 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 6 hits in his complete-game effort.
bin Hamzah told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
To date bin Hamzah is 12-8 in 28 starts with a 3.10 ERA and has 156 strikeouts in 203.1 innings.
