Big Day for Deleón: Swats 5 Hits
|
A jubilant Javier Deleón joined the postgame press conference at Fissures Ballpark to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Union Pacific Flyers pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Texaco Stars center fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 15-5 Stars win.
"He made it look easy," said Yoshiaki Nakamura, manager of the Flyers. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Javier Deleón singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
This season, Deleón has banged out 47 hits in 104 at-bats for a .452 average with 7 home runs. He is getting on base at a .558 pace and his totals also include 25 RBIs and 39 runs scored.
