Long Beach Tumbles Again, Falls, 9-3, to San Fernando
|
San Fernando designated hitter Keith Tims played a vital role in his team's 9-3 conquest of Long Beach. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times for San Fernando. Rick Marriott, the winner, is now 1-1. He struck out 2 and walked 2 over 5.1 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Steve Fuller earned the save for San Fernando, his 1st of the year.
Yuu Suzuki had a big 2-run home run for the Bears in the top of the third inning. With San Fernando leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Paul Berry and swatted a home run to right-center. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bears ahead, 4-1.
"From the last whatever, five, six, seven games, there's really only one way to go and that's up," said losing manager Mike Ellis.
The loss drops Long Beach to 1-9.
