Geckos Dominate, Sweep Garden Cup
|
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Provost League Garden Cup. It turned out quite a bit different.
The Tombstone Geckos swept aside the Topeka ThunderBears to advance to the Pegler Series, winning the final game by a 7-3 score at Topeka Park.
The series MVP was second baseman Mario Ibarra, who hit .500 with a .600 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 4 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
The Tombstone Geckos don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Silver Springs Tarpons - Toledo Liberty series. Toledo leads the series 1 game to 0. The Pegler Series is scheduled to begin on September 14th , 2063.
