With Bill Irvine leading the charge, the Austin Shredders defeated the Cobble Hill Robins, 6-5. Irvine was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Shredders. Austin reliever Nelson Middlebrooks picked up the win, upping his record to 3-4. José Torres took the loss. Austin, with the win, is 20-39.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Luis Rúbio in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a run-scoring double off 32-year old left-handed pitcher Noori bin Mu'awiyah to win it for Austin and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

"What a buzz," said Rúbio after it was over.
