August's Top Starter is Ortíz Friday, September 1st , 2062 Silver Springs Tarpons hurler Roberto Ortíz was rewarded today with the Baxter League Pitcher of the Month honors. Ortíz, 22, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck. "I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Silver Springs starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place." Things did fall into place for Ortíz. In August he took the ball for 41 innings while notching 31 strikeouts, a 2.20 ERA and a 5-1 record. This season, Ortíz shows a 7-3 record in 16 games, 90.2 innings, 88 strikeouts, and a 2.58 ERA. |
