Capitals Halt Monahan Hit Streak Tuesday, February 14th , 2062 Tony Monahan came rolling into today's game against the General Electric Capitals with a 37-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Henderson HS Grounds. The 17-year-old Allis-Chalmers Engines first baseman went 0-for-1 against the Capitals as the Engines fell, 18-10. "I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all." This season, Monahan has 10 home runs and a .440 batting average. |
