Tire End Ortíz Streak
Saturday, February 3rd , 2063
Union Pacific left fielder Javier Ortíz came into today's game against the Goodyear Tire on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Tire did their jobs well, beating the Union Pacific Flyers, 11-8, and holding Ortíz hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 15-year-old left fielder had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Javier did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Flyers manager Yoshiaki Nakamura. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
This season, Ortíz has hit at a .405 clip with 41 RBIs, 15 home runs and 40 runs scored.
