Thurgood Gets 5 Hits
Thursday, February 8th , 2063
Today at Nordiques Ballpark, Calvin Thurgood put on an impressive display.
The Perth Galaxy right fielder tagged Wellington pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on the spree and lost the game to the Wellington Water Wolves by the score of 20-17.
"The loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it," Thurgood said. "5-for-5 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, the Galaxy manager was unwilling to offer the right fielder much praise, saying the "whole roster" is held accountable for losses.
"Calvin told me 'Coach, I had 5 hits' and I said 'Well that's great, but it looks like we needed one more from you,'" manager José Salgado said.
Calvin Thurgood singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a sac fly in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit an RBI triple in the 8th, walked in a run in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Thurgood is batting .288 with 5 home runs, 28 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He has 42 hits in 146 at-bats, 23 walks and a .380 OBP. Thurgood has played in 32 games.
