Koror Wins Round 1
Sunday, February 25th , 2063
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Petah_ Tiqwa HS Grounds as the Round 1 stretched to the final game.
It was the Koror Checkers feeling the thrill of victory, with a 13-2 win over the Pago Pago Chiefs, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Round 2.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Pago Pago manager José Navarro. "Congratulations to Koror, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 4-3 series win was shortstop Heneli Felike, who was named MVP. He hit .607 with a .692 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 11 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The Koror Checkers will play against the Brisbane Beacons in the next round. Brisbane won their series against the Perth Galaxy 4 games to 2. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
