Rawls Crushes 4 Home Runs
John Rawls victimized Marriott Hops hurlers, smashing 4 home runs in a herculean effort that will go down in the Mellon League record books.

In an epic hitting spree at Henry Ford Field, the U.S. Marine Corps right fielder went downtown again and again, leading the Fighting Leathernecks to a win, 23-8. He went 4-for-4, drove in 9 runs and scored 5 times in the historic game.

"The first ones just happened," he said later, discussing the game. "However, that last time, I was swinging for the fences -- and WHAM -- I nailed it."

John Rawls hit a two-run home run off Dan Lacey in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off Dan Lacey in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off José Sealey in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Javier Rivero in the 6th, walked in the 7th and walked in the 8th.

Thus far this season, Rawls is hitting .330 with 16 home runs, 38 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has 38 hits in 115 at-bats and has played in 27 games.
