Guerrero Gets 6 Hits
|
A jubilant Fernando Guerrero joined the postgame press conference at Charlotte College Fields to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the U.S. Navy Midshipmen pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the U.S. Marine Corps Fighting Leathernecks first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 6-for-6 hitting performance, which led to the 18-8 Fighting Leathernecks win.
"He made it look easy," said Manuel Castro, manager of the Midshipmen. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Fernando Guerrero singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, walked in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
This season in 33 games, Guerrero has hit at a .331 clip with 48 hits, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and 30 runs scored.
